Long Island man Matthew Zoll wanted for stabbing father to death: cops

A Long Island man is wanted for fatally stabbing his father at his home, police said Sunday.
Cops identified Matthew Zoll, 23, as the prime suspect in the stabbing of his father, Joseph Zoll, Newsday reported.
Joseph Zoll, 61, was found stabbed to death at his home in Rocky Point around 1:30 a.m. Saturday, Suffolk County police said. Matthew Zoll was identified Sunday as the suspected killer.
Police did not publicly speculate on a motive for the attack. They said Matthew Zoll likely did not have access to a car, according to WABC.
The suspect was described as a 6-foot-1, 150-pound man with brown hair, brown eyes and a small car under his left eye. Police asked anyone with knowledge of his whereabouts to call 911, the Homicide Squad at 631-852-6392 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
Rocky Point sits on the northern coast of Long Island about 55 miles east of Central Park. The small hamlet includes Rocky Point Pine Barrens Preserve and State Forest, an inland wooded area. Residents told 1010 WINS that Matthew Zoll might be hiding on a trail in the area.
The most recent widely reported case of patricide on Long Island occurred in 2020, when a 32-year-old man stabbed his father to death during a Zoom call in the early months of the COVID pandemic.
Thomas Scully-Powers was arrested at the scene in Amityville and charged with killing his father, 72-year-old Dwight Powers. A recovering alcoholic, Powers was in a virtual support group meeting when his son attacked him with knives, cops said.
